Rock solid, resilient relationship on your wish list?

Resilient Relationships

Join together for a more resilient relationship!

Life can be a real rollercoaster and very demanding; however, if we learn to navigate issues through effective communication and flexible thinking, much of the time we can smooth out that bumpy ride and enjoy a rock solid, resilient relationship.

From our own experiences, Brian and I have learned several key points we feel help build resilient relationships that we honor:

Give grace and space

We all know we can say regretful things when overly stressed which just compounds the issue at hand. The important thing here is we have to learn an agreed upon signal or even create one with our partner that will prevent this jam up front. Sure the original issue may still need addressed after a break or some fresh air or a walk; but when some space and some forgiveness has been offered, that original love can shine through! Perhaps, we create the time for better listening and compassion.

Honesty…ALWAYS!

Stretching the truth or trying to cover up some indiscretion will eventually drive you crazy and end up in a fiasco. Your partner has higher standards than to want to be lied to and really needs to believe in you–someone they can trust with anything. Live up to that and you will love yourself better.

Be understanding

Keep your composure while asking questions and be a very intent listener. This may require the grace and space from step one bc being too distracted or wound up will not serve you well when trying to comprehend a situation.

Consider options and be flexible

Hopefully you can discover options for solutions. Remember some things do not require an urgent answer and thus, you have more time. Be creative and use flexible thinking. This might include some brainstorming like, “What if…?” or “How about considering ….?”

A sense of humor may ease some tension

Sometimes a distraction or a bit of humor can ease the struggle or situation and help refocus. It’s actually scientifically proven to reduce one’s stress response–such as relax muscles and improve one’s mood.

Building trust creates lasting happiness

When dedicating yourself to a relationship, trust building is a huge factor! Trust is earned. Always be true to your word. A wonderful level of comfort comes with complete trust over time. People get comfortable with each other and complete commitment takes over.
